The Friday 5

A weekly announcement listing for First Baptist Church Hilton Head Island, SC

Friday, July 21, 2017

God is awesome so why not trust him?

1. SERMON SERIES:  GOD’S PROMISES FROM PSALMS, “God’s Promise through Doubt:  ‘...help my unbelief’.”  Mark 9:34, Psalm 34:22

2. Thank you to ALL the volunteers and helpers who gave their time and energy to Vacation Bible School last week.

3. Vacation Bible School Mission Project – Church Family Participation Is Invited

The mission project for the children attending Vacation Bible School last week was to collect items to place in backpacks, called comfort packs, for children facing traumatic life experiences. Many times children facing these situations must move quickly to another place to be safe and do not have much time to gather their belongings, leaving them without basic necessities. VBS participants made their donations, but the backpacks could use more of the items listed below. We are leaving the donation time open one more week. If you would like to make a donation from the list below, please bring it to the Family Life Center by next Sunday, July 30 and put into the “well” located in the foyer. The comfort packs will be filled and then donated to The Department of Social Services (DSS) who will give them to children in need.

We appreciate your support that will provide for the basic needs of others, and we ask you to pray for those who will need these “comfort packs.”

The VBS Missions Team

We have collected plenty of backpacks – but are in need of the following to put into them:  Stuffed animals, Lap blankets, Socks, Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Combs and brushes, Travel shampoo, Bars of soap, Travel deodorant, Pencils and crayons, Notebook paper.

4.  Please Return Empty Baby Bottles

During the month of May, our church held a fund raiser for The Pregnancy Center and Clinic of the Lowcountry. They provided their “God’s Gift” baby bottles to fill with donations. The Center is very grateful for the generous donation from our church that totaled $2,686. The baby bottles come from the Pregnancy Center, and they would like to have them all returned for additional fund raiser opportunities. If, by chance, you still have one or more, please return them to the foyer of either the Family Life Center or the Sanctuary so we can return them.

Thank you for your generosity.

5. Calgary Mission Trip, August 5 - 12, 2017

Plans continue for the church’s mission trip to Calgary in August. Chuck and Nancy Staab, Wendy Gudz, Paula Duncan, Dick Sanders, and Richard and Sharon Duncan have committed to making the trip. Please pray for them and our missionaries, Brett and Kristin Myers, as they prepare for the trip, assisting Brett with summer camps where they will share the love of Jesus with the children in attendance of the camps and their families. Tommy and Sherry Myers are already in Canada assisting Brett and will be happy to see our team arrive. Call Chuck Workman at 843-415-3898 for more information about this mission trip to Calgary.
